the Zambesi collection for winter 2009 looks both to the future and the distant past.

the future is glimpsed in panels of quilted polyamide, heavy weight plastic zips, patent leather, laser cut fabrics, dark coated cottons, wool elastane and an almost sculptural rigidity to jackets and dresses.

a distant almost-medieval past is seen in attention-seeking circular capes of soft, slit leather, loosely knitted, boldly coloured mohair, psychedelic prints, draped wool viscose layers and garments crafted from hand picked remnants.

at first glance many of the garments sit simply. at second, complex cutting and construction become obvious. there’s a subtle adventure to the architectural tailoring.

a circular motif runs through the collection. originally inspired by a hand-cut vintage bag, leather capes and vests end up looking tough and primitive.
